Rita Kinga
Biography
Rita Kinga (born 1968) is a Kenyan painter who lives and works in Paris, France. Her work explores sexuality, race and African tribes.
She was born in Nairobi, Kenya, where she lived until the age of nine. From the age of nine to seventeen he lived in South Africa. At seventeen, she moved to Paris, where she graduated in Fine Arts and met artists such as Otto Rash, Geena Yates, Jean Saez and Anna Roderick.
Kinga was included in the 1982 Venice Biennale and in.1995 was included in Apollo magazine’s “40 Under 40 Africa” list.
Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Nairobi Gallery in Kenya.
In her works, Kinga uses painting in a casual and naive manner, using flat colors and basic shapes, which attempts to represent the spirit of her ancestors. His major influences are literature (especially Amos Tutuola) and music (from Sun Ra to Fela Kuti).
