Sophie Krieger
Biography
Sophie Krieger (born November 26, 1986) is an German contemporary painter, print-maker, and collage artist who explores spirituality and Religion in her work.
She is especially known for her photographic work and collages of religious prints in a pictorial context.
Krieger was awarded a Goethe-Institut Prize in 2008, at the age of 22, becoming one of the youngest ever recipients of the award.
She is regarded as among the most prominent and acclaimed artists working today in the field of photomontage and collage photography.
One of her most popular series is called “Torn Cross” (see below), divided into 5 images that show a break with her previous work in which she concentrated more on mythological themes.
Her interest in the history of religions led her to develop images that mix Christian imagery with pop-art or lo-fi art.
Krieger is very popular in the current Berlin art scene and has exhibited her work all over the world, especially in New York and Paris, where she also teaches photography workshops.
He is currently working at the art school in Berlin and also does occasional work for film.
Her recent work is always involved in controversy for dealing with compex themes in a rupturist and very direct way.
